Strawberry Skies Weekly Jams: March 24th, 2022

Welcome to the first Strawberry Skies Weekly Jams radio show after spring break! This week we've got a full slate of brand-new releases by some of my favorite artists as well as super fun songs by artists I'll be seeing live or have seen live this week.

If you're reading this between 6:00 and 7:00 PM EST on Thursday, March 24th, you can listen live right now here. If you're not reading this during that timeframe, you can listen to what I played using this week's Spotify playlist here!

"Chinese Satellite (Live From Sound City)" - Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers' "Punisher" is one of my favorite albums of all time, and this version is absolutely beautiful. Really hoping for new music from her soon but this will certainly suffice.

"Sugar" - Highwind

Highwind and their team is full of super talented super friendly people, which would make me play this song regardless of how good it was, but this track is one of Highwind's best. Their new album "Something Right in Between" drops on May 6th.

"Raining In Toronto" - In Her Own Words, Jonathan Vigil

I've been talking about In Her Own Words a ton lately, and with good reason. This band constantly hits things out of the park and this single was no different.

"Barbed Wire Body" - Movements

Movements will forever be on my list of favorite bands, but I didn't love their most recent album "No Good Left to Give" as much as I wanted to. This brand-new single got me right back on the bandwagon, I can't stop listening to it.

"Suburban Movie Song" - Christian Sparacio, Nick Horn

I got to know Christian Sparacio while interning with DIMM Entertainment last winter and spring and his music is always perfect for walking around campus here at Quinnipiac. This new single is definitely one of my favorites of his.

"Nowhere to Go" - Rare Candy

Rare Candy, the solo project of former Belmont member Alex Wieringa, is hands-down my favorite artist to work with at Vibe Check Public Relations/Management. He just released two new singles, "Get to Know You" and "Nowhere to Go", which you'll love if you like chilled-out, acoustic, singer-songwriter music.

"Bloodhound" - Scowl

I finally got to see Scowl for the first time this past week at Space Ballroom in Hamden, CT, and it was an amazing experience. If you've been following this blog for a while, you know that their album "How Flowers Grow" was one of my favorites of 2021, so hearing those songs live was super cathartic.

"Pressure Cooker" - Dazy, Militarie Gun

I also got to see Militarie Gun for the first time this week, and although I hadn't listened to them a ton beforehand, this live performance absolutely sold me. They played this new single at the show and the energy was through the roof.

"Lights Out" - Vein.fm

I've seen Vein before but this week was the first time I got to see them when I wasn't working the show, so getting to really enjoy their set was awesome. Their new album "This World is Going to Ruin You" has definitely worked its way into my daily rotation.

"Reminders" - Touche Amore

Seeing Touche Amore for the first time was certainly the highlight of the show at Space Ballroom this week for me. Their entire discography is incredible, but their album "Stage Four" in particular will forever be one of my favorites, so hearing those songs live was amazing.

"Misplaced" - Soul Blind

Moving on to this weekend, the Hygiene tour will be making its way to Market Hotel in Brooklyn, New York. Soul Blind will be one of the openers at this show, and although I've only seen them a few times, their live performance always delivers.

"Leave Me Behind" - One Step Closer

Fun fact: this is the only song from One Step Closer's album "This Place You Know" that has not been included on a Strawberry Skies playlist. If that doesn't tell you how much I love that band and that record, nothing will. Can't wait to see them again this Saturday.

"Tiresome" - Drug Church

The highlight for Saturday's show for me will probably be seeing Drug Church for the first time since spring 2019, when I barely knew any songs by them. This song is from their album "Hygiene", which they are currently touring in support of.
